Development of novel rhizobial inoculants for inducing drought tolerance in cereals

…drought adaptation and plant growth-promoting properties at different drought levels. Drought-tolerant, plant growth-enhancing strains were characterized for production of catalases, expolysaccharides, indole acetic acid, siderophores and ACC-deaminase activity. Selected rhizobial combinations were evaluated for improving the growth and yield of wheat and maize in pots at different drought levels, and these results were confirmed in field trials under drought/water-limited conditions. Outcome The strains tested were used for the development of a biofertilizer (named RhizogoldD) to regulate production of wheat and maize under drought/water-limited conditions, to boost the economic benefit for resource-poor farmers.
