The solar-powered oxygen (SPO2) system is a scalable oxygen concentrator system that allows for power to be generated from a renewable energy source. The system provides medical oxygen access to under-5 children at remote health facilities that are not part of the oxygen cylinder distribution system and are off-grid, or cannot rely on a steady stream of electricity to keep oxygen concentrators running uninterrupted. With this funding, the SPO2 team intends to prove the hypoxemia-specific mortality benefit of the oxygen system across 20 facilities in Uganda, and develop costing for Ministry of Health consideration for further scale.
