This program aims to study the impact on child development parameters at two years of age through an integrated intervention that will blend a nutrition intervention with a parenting program, while developing and promoting a social business plan. The project will develop a 'Food Basket' for pregnant women, to ensure nutritional needs are met during pregnancy, and a parenting program aimed at enhancing knowledge and skills of caregivers. The intervention will be managed in close collaboration and with support from government departments of public health and women and child development. The project intends to promote Local Women Groups (LWGs) to create a social franchise model in which women will be trained to develop Food Baskets for purchase by pregnant women through vouchers. This social business model will be self-sustainable and will help to enhance the motor, language and socio-emotional development of children in their first 1,000 days of life.
