The wide-spread use of DNA diagnostics at the point-of-care is limited by the ability to prepare pure DNA from a variety of clinical sample types, and by the need for specialized instrumentation and highly trained personnel to carry out testing. This project aims to develop affordable, rapid, and simple nucleic acid extraction devices and an affordable, rapid and simple isothermal nucleic acid amplification assay that can be performed at the village level by minimally trained personnel.
