We are proud to share that Grand Challenges Canada’s CEO, Dr. Karlee Silver, has been invited to join the World Economic Forum’s Global Alliance for Women’s Health as one of its Champions for Women’s Health.
Supported by the Gates Foundation, the Global Alliance for Women’s Health brings together 165 organizations from across the public, private, and philanthropic sectors. Its mission is to close the health gap faced by too many women and girls worldwide — a gap that costs millions of healthy life years and up to a trillion dollars annually.
As a Champion for Women’s Health, Dr. Silver will stand alongside leaders such as Helen Clark, Alaa Murabit, and Sania Nishtar, to close the persistent gaps in how women’s health is researched, financed, and prioritized. Together, the Champions are advancing a common vision: to place women’s voices and experiences at the centre of health systems, drive new investments and financing models for women’s health, and accelerate innovation to deliver solutions at scale.
“The Champions Community of the Global Alliance for Women’s Health is more than a network — it is a collective force of leaders and advocates who amplify women’s voices, drive innovation, and accelerate progress toward healthier women, stronger economies, smarter science, and a de-risked future for generations to come.”
Head of the Global Alliance and fellow Champion for Women’s Health, Amira Ghouaibi
This appointment reflects both Dr. Silver and Grand Challenges Canada’s ongoing commitment to advancing equity through innovation by supporting innovative, locally led solutions to improve health and well-being worldwide.
“Closing the women’s health gap requires bold investment in science and innovation, new financing models that can unlock solutions at scale, and a global conversation that centres women’s experiences. I am honoured to join this Alliance to build appreciation for women’s health as a smart investment.”
Dr. Karlee Silver, CEO, Grand Challenges Canada.
Dr. Silver will participate in the meeting of the Champions for Women’s Health, held during the Forum’s Sustainable Development Impact Meetings, in parallel with the United Nations General Assembly in New York this year.
