The Challenge
Around the world, 200 million children under the age of five are at risk of not achieving their potential due to poverty and developmental stunting. The first 1,000 days of life are critical to a child’s development, growth, and livelihood. Colombia has 4.2 million children, two-thirds under the age of 3 do not have access early childhood development programs.
About the Innovation
aeioTU is a social enterprise in Bogotá that provides high-quality maternal and early childhood development programs for women during pregnancy and children up to the age of 5. This closes the development gap between children of high- and low-income families to offer every child a fair start in life.
The program consists of a comprehensive curriculum, institutional and home visiting programs, health and nutrition, and a software platform (connecTU) that allows educators to monitor children’s development. Operating in partnership with state, public, and private partners, programming is provided year-round, nine hours a day. To date, aeioTU has 30 centers in Colombia.
