Leyla is a Program Officer for the Indigenous Innovation Initiative hosted at Grand Challenges Canada for the Gender Equality through Social Innovation program.
Indigenous mestizo originally from El Salvador, Leyla is an Industrial Engineer with a Master’s in Business Strategy and Innovation and a diploma in Brand Management. She started her career working on business consulting for NGOs in Central America, then she transitioned into strategy and insights for consumer products and retail companies, both in El Salvador and in Toronto.
For the last six years, Leyla has been working as an independent consultant helping small businesses and non-profits launch, create plans for success, work productively and get funded. She has worked for Indigenous organizations such as Canadian Council for Aboriginal Business and Indigenous Works. She has also been teaching business workshops and mentoring startups at diverse incubators and accelerators in Toronto such as York University Food Entrepreneurs Accelerator, Ryerson WeHub, and WorkInCulture.
Leyla helps social enterprises create plans and models to achieve their vision, make a profit and work efficiently, without losing sight of their positive impact.
