Becca Smith is Senior Manager for Knowledge Management and Translation. She leads the work of the Knowledge Management and Translation team, including developing internal knowledge management systems and processes, overseeing Grand Challenges Canada’s impact modelling work, and providing technical guidance for capturing and communicating the results of innovations funded by Grand Challenges Canada.
Becca brings extensive experience as a researcher and evaluator with a specialization in gender issues and women’s and girls’ rights. Prior to joining Grand Challenges Canada, Becca worked as a Principal Consultant at IMC Worldwide Ltd and as an independent consultant for clients including Oxfam, CARE, DFID, and the Overseas Development Institute. She previously led on monitoring, evaluation and learning for Girl Hub Ethiopia and worked at the International Development Research Centre. Becca has expertise in promoting the utilization of evidence, stakeholder engagement and organizational learning processes, developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks and theories of change, leading project evaluations, and gender mainstreaming. She is experienced in mixed methods research and evaluation, participatory methods and the application of digital technologies for social development. She has led studies in Bangladesh, Nepal, Ethiopia, and Morocco and has further experience in Pakistan, Senegal, Tajikistan, Zambia, and Southeast Asia.
Becca holds a post-graduate certificate in Data Science, Technology and Innovation from the University of Edinburgh, MA International Affairs from Carleton University and a BA in Development Studies and History from Queen’s University.
