The project will test the feasibility and acceptability of group based antenatal and postnatal care (GANC/PNC) in improving postpartum family planning (PPFP) acceptance and uptake in young women (15-25 years) in Niger. The project will compare PPFP acceptance and uptake between young women attending GANC/PNC in a large urban public hospital in Maradi to rates of PPFP acceptance and uptake among a matched group who had attended individual based ANC/PNC in the same hospital in the year prior. Women in both groups will receive information on six key topics: maternal nutrition, disease prevention in pregnancy, danger signs (in mothers/newborns), home vs hospital delivery, breastfeeding and PPFP.
