The project will test the feasibility of using lay-persons to deliver Ujamaa's Mashinani ("Grassroots") program to empower women who are victims of domestic violence through a combination of formal business training, microfinance, and Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) psychosocial support groups. Laypersons will receive a 6-week training course and occasional refreshers by Ujamaa staff members on facilitating psychosocial support groups. Lay facilitators will also visit businesses in the field once established to consult on improvements, encourage women to attend group support/healing meetings (Tupone Pamoja), ensure timely repayment of loans, screen and recruit new members, and liaise with community stakeholders and conduct community awareness around IPV.
