This project aims to economically empower survivors of sexual violence and sex workers living near gold mines in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo by training them in designing, crafting and selling ethically mined gold and semi-precious stone jewelry. The objective is to create a women’s mining cooperative and establish both a women-run ethical gold and a women-run semi-precious stones value chain. In addition to technical training in crafting jewelry, participants will receive training in entrepreneurship, finance, marketing, and corporate social responsibility. The program will also improve sex workers’ access to sexual and reproductive health services with the support of survivors already engaged in the foundation’s survivor support network.
