Reshaping social norms to end female genital mutilation

FacebookTwitterLinked In

Start Date: 01/04/2019- End Date: 30/06/2020

Project Lead(s): Faith Mwangi-Powell

Options Kenya recognizes that female genital mutilation (FGM) is underpinned by social norms and aims to contribute to ending FGM in four African countries: Senegal, Nigeria, Gambia and Burkina Faso. Their innovative approach addresses the social norms that support the continuation of FGM through three integrated elements: (i) social change communication training using a Training of Trainers model, (ii) providing small grants to support critical skills transfer at the community level through a co-financing mechanism and iii) validation survey for social norm measurements to understand the role and pathways through which social change communication contributes to ending FGM.
