Project Lead(s): DIEUDONNE EPICHOP
The project aims to use a Development Impact Bond (DIB) to implement Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC), a cost-effective intervention known to save and improve the lives of low birth weight and pre-term infants in low resource settings, in up to 10 hospitals in Cameroon. Training will be provided to health staff in selected government-funded hospitals to create “Centres of Excellence”. Public health staff will be the ones delivering the KMC intervention to mothers and low-birth weight infants, and also training up health staff in other hospitals to deliver KMC. The aim of this “train-the-trainer” arrangement is to institutionalize high-quality KMC delivery in the public health system, such that quality delivery would be sustained beyond the life of the DIB.
