The Mama Ambassador Program (MAP) is an initiative to improve support for the 2,000 adolescent mothers each year in Uganda. The project will identify, track and provide institutional and monthly peer-group support to adolescent mothers, to improve their well-being and stimulate their infants’ early brain development. Midwives and Mama Ambassadors will be trained in adolescent-friendly antenatal care, postnatal care and infant development curricula, to empower adolescent girls during their pregnancy and up to 12 months after birth. Skills and mentoring in essential practices for early brain development will improve infants’ performance in key development indicators at 2, 6 and 12 months.
