Based in St. Louis, Senegal, Espoir pour la Santé (EPLS) is a world-renowned biomedical research centre, famous for its work on schistosomiasis. For almost 20 years, the centre has worked closely with Senegalese communities to study the immunological response to the various parasites, including pathological consequences.
In Transition To Scale, they will conduct a new study to test whether the restoration of prawns can control population abundance and infection prevalence, develop the prawn production business, and understand the mechanisms at play in allowing for the success (or not) of various factors with the potential to see a dual public health and economic benefit.
