It is the aim of this project to identify hazardous alcohol users whose consumption may lead to serious health consequences (but social consequences might already be manifest), and also drinkers who already have developed alcohol use disorders (AUD), and provide treatment to reduce alcohol-related burden of disease and injuries.
This will be achieved by implementing small-scale but effective interventions, such as screening for hazardous alcohol use and AUD, applying brief interventions and referral to treatment, when necessary.
Using this approach, problematic alcohol consumption will be reduced by using a public health approach (screening and intervention before problems arise), and a clinical approach that optimizes available resources and increases capacity by training non-specialized healthcare personnel and involving the community.
