Saving Lives at Birth
Program Information
This program looks at groundbreaking prevention and treatment approaches for pregnant women and newborns in poor, rural communities around the time of childbirth. Innovative ideas that can leapfrog conventional approaches are critical in this area; we are looking for solutions that combine scientific/technological, business, and social innovation, an approach we call Integrated Innovation.
If we are to accelerate substantial and sustainable progress against maternal and newborn deaths and stillbirths at the community level, we need innovative approaches to prevention and treatment across three main domains: 1 – Science & technology; 2 – Service delivery; and 3 – Demand-side innovation that empowers pregnant women and their families to practise healthy behaviours and be aware of and access health care during pregnancy, childbirth and the early postnatal period, especially the first two days after birth”.
The first round closed on May 9, 2011 at 11:59 EST. Stay tuned for announcements of subsequent rounds.
