On October 10, 2012, Grand Challenges Canada awarded $19.4 million CAD in support of 15 innovative, pioneering projects designed to improve mental health diagnosis and care in developing countries. The projects were selected through competitive scientific peer review from among 97 ideas submitted in response to a grand challenge to propose innovations that increase access, improve treatment, and address stigma for people with mental health disorders in developing countries. The 15 projects that received funding are summarized below.
